Cutting-edge, multicultural contemporary artist Chitra Ganesh's drawing-based practice is unifi ed by a keen interest in Hindu, Greek, and Buddhist mythology, nineteenth-century European portraiture and fairy tales, song lyrics, and contemporary visual culture such as Bollywood posters, anime, and comic books. Ganesh will discuss her career and her new series of large-scale charcoal drawings inspired by early silent cinema. Raja Harishchandra, a work from this series, recently entered the Museum's collection and will be on view in the Indian Temple Hall (gallery 224).
