In this watercolor monotype printmaking workshop, students will learn the art of spontaneity and collaboration with a printing press. By working directly onto plexiglass with water soluble crayons, students will learn how to transfer images and forms onto paper.
Jazmine Catasús
is an artist, educator, and master printer.
She serves as Artistic Director and Master Printer at the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop (RBPMW) at the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts, where she has been active since 2013. Working across the printshop and archive, she collaborates with artists and community members, including Lizanina Cruz, Kameelah Janan Rasheed, and Dindga McCannon.
Catasús has led printmaking and papermaking workshops at institutions such as the Center for Contemporary Printmaking, Print Center New York, the International Print Center of New York, Dieu Donné, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art, and the Noguchi Museum. She is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Pratt Institute.
Her practice centers on print and papermaking, exploring ornamentation, materiality, spiritual practices, and Black subjectivity. She received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she was awarded the New Artists Award. Her work has been exhibited nationally, most recently at the National Arts Club (NYC), and she has held residencies at the Bard Graduate Center, the Penland School of Crafts, and the Morgan Conservatory.
