This Month’s Poet is Miles E. Johnson
He will be giving a reading and leading us through a writing workshop where poets will have the opportunity to generate and share new work.
Miles E. Johnson is a journalist by training, a poet by lived experience. Miles believes the world would be better without borders, but simultaneously reps his home, Washington DC, with fervor and gratitude. Miles has received Cave Canem and Tin House fellowships, and believes strongly in connecting readers of written poetry to their lived poetics. He loves his Granny and all the other Black folk who watch out and over him, following NBA basketball, and writing poems about comic books. You can find (some of) Miles’s work in the Mother Jones and NPR archives, on Instagram @blackandoutside, and at blackandoutside.com.
Miles E. Johnson will give a reading and lead us through a generative writing workshop from 7pm-8:30pm on Thursday, July 23rd, 2026 at 12Gates, located at 106 N 2nd St.
Doors open at 6:30pm and close promptly at 7pm.
Curated by Sanam Sheriff, THE POETS' STUDIO is a monthly gathering for local poets who are interested in writing, sharing, and connecting through poetry. This event is free and open to all who are interested in engaging more deeply with lyric and the written word.
