Nihad Dukhan

for a hands-on workshop in Islamic calligraphy, taking place Friday, October 2, from 9:45am to 1:00pm in Room 632, Williams Hall, at the University of Pennsylvania (255 S. 36th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104). All materials will be provided, and pre-registration is required.

Dukhan is a traditionally trained master of Arabic and Islamic calligraphy and a professor of mechanical engineering, who has studied a range of traditional calligraphic styles with renowned master calligraphers including Hasan Çelebi and Mohamed Zakariya. Over the last three decades, he has developed his own personal, modern form of Arabic calligraphy. His work has been exhibited and sold around the world, and he remains active in promoting Arabic and Islamic calligraphy and increasing awareness of its cultural significance.

This workshop is presented by Twelve Gates Arts in collaboration with the Sachs Program for Arts Innovation, the Penn Forum for Global Islamic Studies, and the Wolf Humanities Center at the University of Pennsylvania.
